One Addict Helping Another
I used to chase the fading light,
Running hard into the night,
Searching for a way to fill
A hunger deeper than my will.
I built my world on broken dreams,
Held together by fragile seams,
Pretending I was in control,
While addiction claimed my soul.
Then came a voice, quiet and true,
From someone who had struggled too.
They did not judge, they did not preach,
They simply showed what hope could teach.
One day at a time, one step at a pace,
I learned recovery isn't a race.
It's choosing faith instead of fear,
And finding purpose year by year.
The road is not always smooth or straight,
There are storms I still must navigate.
Yet today I stand where I once fell,
A living story I can tell.
I found freedom where chains had been,
A chance to start my life again.
Not because I was strong alone,
But because recovery helped me grow.
Now when another addict calls,
Lost among addiction's walls,
I offer my hand and share my story,
Not seeking praise, nor seeking glory.
For hope is a gift meant to be shared,
By those who struggled, fought, and cared.
And the miracle I have come to see,
Is that helping you keeps helping me.
One addict helping another,
Father, mother, sister, brother.
Proof that no matter how dark the night,
Recovery can bring us back to the light.
