Resentments
I spent a long time thinking I was the 'easygoing' one. When I first sat down to look at my past, I honestly thought I’d have a short list. I figured since I wasn't screaming at people or getting into fights, I didn't have resentments. I’ve realized that for me, resentment isn't always a big explosion; it’s more like a slow leak.
I’m the type of person who tries to stay busy and keep a tight schedule just to keep my head above water. But lately, I’ve noticed that when I’m doing something totally normal—like just sitting quietly or folding laundry—these old, bitter thoughts start creeping in. I’ll start an argument in my head with someone from three years ago, or I’ll get a knot in my stomach thinking about a situation that was totally unfair.
The 'justified' part of the reading is what gets me. I’ve spent a lot of time telling myself, 'I have every right to be mad about this.' And maybe I do. But being 'right' doesn't stop my chest from feeling tight, and it doesn't help me be a better person today. It just keeps me stuck in the same old loop.
I’m learning that if I want to actually enjoy my life and have some peace, I have to stop feeding those old grudges. It’s not about letting the other person off the hook; it’s about letting *me* off the hook. I don't want to carry that weight into tomorrow. I just want to do what’s in front of me today without all that extra baggage holding me back.
