Zoom Rooms
Hi, I’m an addict.
So I only go to virtual meetings… which means my recovery family lives in little squares like the Brady Bunch of bad decisions.
My idea of “fellowship” is arguing with myself about whether to turn my camera on or stay spiritually anonymous in pajama mode.
In active addiction, I was out in the streets acting wild.
Now I’m at home, muted, laughing at something someone said 3 minutes ago because my WiFi is working a Step behind.
And let’s be real—half the time I’m like, “Is that person sharing… or did they forget they’re not on mute?”
Recovery got me playing detective: ‘Was that a spiritual insight or someone ordering DoorDash?’
But here’s the crazy part… I still feel connected.
Like, somehow, through screens and usernames like “BlessedAndStressed42,” I found my people.
I don’t have to leave my house to not feel alone anymore.
And THAT is wild for someone who used to feel lonely in a crowded room.
Plus, if I cry, I can just turn my camera off and instantly become “mysteriously spiritual.”
Recovery gave me something I never had—even on Zoom:
I can laugh, I can feel, and I can be okay… without wrecking my life.
And honestly? That’s more fun than anything I thought I was losing.
